Watching Alejandro skate the Greenwood Village Skatepark is always fun; afterall, we’ve been going there for almost 8 years now. We took our old Canon VH1 over to Mckinley a couple of weeks ago, but it took my dad a little time to encode the footage, edit it and place it on the web. He said it is actually easier to compress digital video using the Adobe Flash (flv) format and let Wordpress do the rest. I think he uses the Anarchy Media Player plugin. I guess we’ll start placing our videos on the blog in the future, but please let us know what you think about that.
Greenwood Skate Video
Anyway, enough of the techno-mumbo-jumbo. What do you think of the video and what about Alejandro’s skating? There are a couple of new tricks in the video. The kiwi slide is a lot of fun and he’s definately getting more grind time on the rails. Also, I noticed he landed a blunt, a 360 out and a judo kick. I’d enjoy hearing from you, especially if you’re a corporate sponsor and you think there is a place on your team for us, but regardless…enjoy!

Over the years, I’ve picked up the names of different skate tricks from the people at the various skate parks, but I’m not always entirely sure how to spell them or if the trick names used amongst skateboarders are consistent. My observation is that most people do use similar names, but there appears to be local slang and different vernacular used from park to park. So here’s a picture of my latest Faky Air 180, or is it Fakie Air 180?

Just in case you are wondering….I landed it!

This is the 2nd year we have made the trip up to Longmont to participate in the Rumble at the Ranch skateboard competition. The event started in the afternoon on of 6/21. It’s part of the 2008 Mountain Madness Series which is suppose to bring you the best in Colorado grassroots skateboard competitions. We always have fun meeting all our skateboard friends at these sort of things, but we should probably just do that once a year rather than meet for a “so-called” competition.
Here’s the problem, and it’s an issue with most of the mountain madness series competitions. Rarely, are the judges unbaised on their scoring. Most of the time, they are from the community where the competition is being held and are friends with the local skaters. You can see them high-fiving each other when the locals hit their sketchie tricks and ignoring the unknown kid’s skate routines.
I don’t want to come off as a “sore loser” because I actually won 3rd place in intermediate bowl. I just think this shows how far we need to go here in Colorado. It’s too bad there isn’t an organization that can qualify judges and make sure that they are being objective for all the participants. To me, it seems like this would be a good role for skatecolorado.org to take on since they appear to be sponsoring the competitions. Does anyone know of a national association that is talking about this topic? I’d enjoy hearing from you. Until next time: SK8NE1?

Sk8ne1 is making a skate park. It won’t be really big. Just a couple quarter pipes, a spine, half pipe, maybe a pool, and a hip. If you are interested, just contact us. Right now, all we have finished is a half pipe.

The bad news: My dad hurt his leg playing tennis.
The good news: We are SKATING a lot!
Check this hand plant out:

We’ve been working on the fakie air 180. Last year Nate was getting some great air on his, but we have not seen him around Greenwood much this year. So what’s the scoop?

Finally, the boneless, check out my thumbs up!

We’ve both been busy skating this Spring. As always, we really really like the Greenwood Village skatepark, but more and more our dad is taking us up to Woodward. It’s in the Colorado Mills Mall and we have to admit it is a lot of fun to skate on the wood there. The skaters there are really good too. There’s one kid named Phil that is signed with DC and skates for Element and he is only 12. My dad made friends with his dad (Ken) and they are talking a lot about the skateboard circuit and how to get skateboard reps to see our videos.
We’re now starting to plan some summer skateboard trips too. I think we’re gonna go to Vegas again, but my dad said we might go down to the Grand Canyon and skate Trinidad, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Phoenix. It sounds like a lot of fun and I’m sure there will be a lot of places to park the RV. We’ll let you know more as it comes together and maybe we can get together and play SKATE at one of the parks. Hi Everyybody, we skated several times over the weekend. On Saturday, we started at our favorite skate park “McKinnley Skateboard Park” in Greenwood Village, Colorado: NOTE: If you want to catch us skate your best bet really is this skatepark! It was fun skating Greenwood, but eventually we decided to see what was up at Redstone skatepark, (Highlands Ranch) and down in Castle Rock. At Redstone, Alejandro successfully tried his fakie air 180 from the snake and Andre perfected his axle stall. At Castle Rock, Andre axle stalled a bit more and Alejandro did the long rail next to the small bowl.
At Greenwood, there was a Mom there (Karen) in the morning and my dad helped her kid (James) drop in the 4′. He did a great job! Then, later we came back and the place was packed. At first, we just thought everyone in Colorado had “cabin fever”, but then we found out there was a birthday party going on. It was kind of amateur hour, but my dad said he made friends with the father (David) of the son having the birthday party. At least his son could skate.
OK then, until next time…SK8NE1?
